Introduction
(5 minutes)- Show students a hat. Ask them to think of another word for a hat. If students do not bring up "cap," then you should.
- Ask students to see who wears caps at home.
- Then, show the class the cover of Caps for Sale. Ask students if they have ever read this book.
- Have students make predictions about what the book is about based on the cover.
Beginning
- Provide students with vocabulary words in their home language (L1).
- Define and model how to make a prediction using something familiar to the students (e.g., "I predict the weather will be hot because it is clear and sunny.").
Intermediate
- Have students turn and talk to share their predictions with a partner using the sentence frame, "I predict __ ___ ___ ______ __ ___ ___ ______ will happen in the story."
