Introduction
(5 minutes)- Lead the students in a quick brainstorm of events that have starting and ending times (e.g. school schedule, sports events, airplane flights, etc.).
- Tell the students that they are going to be learning how to calculate elapsed time, which is the amount of time that passes between two different times.
Beginning:
- Have students brainstorm with a supportive peer or one with the same home language (L1), if possible.
- Allow students to share their ideas in their L1.
Intermediate: Provide a sentence frame to support student sharing, such as " ________ has a start and end time."
