Our Take: When writing a narrative, students should pay close attention to the words and phrases they use to make their writing clear and precise, while also evoking their desired mood and tone. Help students choose between words with slightly different meanings. Fifth graders can also build a good sense of word choice by studying different authors’ writing styles.
