Witch Sandwich

What You Need:

• Sliced bread
• Sandwich meat
• Condiments
• Black paper
• Scissors
• Wooden skewer
• Tape
• Knife
• Lettuce
• Cheese
• Grape tomatoes

What You Do:

1. Help your child set up a sandwich-making station -- just like he was going to make a normal sandwich. Make sure all the ingredients are lined up and ready to go.
2. Have him spread his desired condiments on two slices of bread.
3. Let him stack his favorite sandwich ingredients on one slice: cheese slices, crunchy lettuce, delicious meat, anything else he loves to eat in his sandwich.
4. Help him taken the wooden skewer and gently break it in half. Make sure your child holds one end of the skewer in each hand and points the bending skewer away from his body and any other body nearby.
5. Does he see the frayed, splintering edges of the broken skewer? Help your child encourage this fraying. Pull at the tiny pieces and even peel them off completely.
6. Have him use tape to combine these wooden splinters into a broom.
7. Let him stick the wooden skewer broom on top of the sandwich ingredients.
8. Now he can place the second slice of bread over all the ingredients and the broom. Make sure the broom is peaking out though!
9. Time to make the famous witch hat. Show your child how to fold a piece of black construction paper into a funnel shape.
10. Have him attach tape to the paper so it maintains its form.
11. Plop the witch hat on top of the sandwich.
12. Next, have him cut out a big circle out of another sheet of black construction paper that is bigger than the sandwich.
13. Set the sandwich on top of the black circle.
14. For an extra fun twist, help your child cut one grape tomato in two. Set the bright red halves next to the sandwich. Looks like a witch forgot her ruby red slippers!
