Winter Snow Scene
Enjoy the sparkle of a fresh snowfall whether or not the weather outside is chilly enough for snow. This paper project will allow your imaginative child to create her own snow solution out of salt and water before sprinkling it over a winter scene.
What You Need:
- Blue construction paper
- Scraps of white, green, brown, black and orange construction paper
- Scissors
- Black permanent marker
- Glue stick
- Water
- Tablespoon
- Salt
- Small paint brush
- Cup
What You Do:
- First have your child plan out his winter scene. Ask her to imagine her perfect winter wonderland and to point out where on the blank piece of blue construction paper each tree and snowman would go.
- Let her cut out trees and a snowman from the green, brown and white pieces of construction paper.
- Have her attach the trees and snowman to the blue paper with a glue stick.
- If your child plans to fill in any details with markers, make sure she uses permanent ones. The watery snow solution you will be using later will cause water-based markers to run.
- Now the snowy fun begins! Have your child measure two tablespoons of water into a small cup.
- Next, have her add two tablespoons of salt to the cup and stir.
- Let your child dribble the salty mixture over her scene to create a gentle snow fall.
- Make sure she rubs the solution on even the parts of her scene that are made up of white construction paper -- the solution will make it sparkle.
- Set aside the entire project to dry.
- Have your child apply one more coat of the solution to make her scene shine.
