Winter Colors

What You Need:

• Construction paper (at least 5 colors plus white)
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Markers (matching the colors of the construction paper)
• Objects to trace that create small, medium and large circles

What You Do:

1. Have your child fold a sheet of white paper 3 times. Trace the largest circular object onto the top of the folded sheet of paper. Cut this out and count how many large circles you have.
2. Repeat this for the medium and small-sized circles.
3. Stack several different colors of construction paper and have her draw a top hat on the top sheet of paper. Ask her to cut along the pencil drawing to create several different top hats, each a unique color.
4. Lay out the hats with a small, medium and large circle underneath them so they look like snowmen.
5. Starting with the first snowman, ask her the color of his hat. Tell her to find the marker that matches that color and write the name of the color on the largest circle. If the hat is red, use the red marker to write "Red" on the large circle.
6. Continuing with the same snowman, have her draw three red buttons down the middle of the medium circle. Then, have her draw his eyes in red, a carrot for his nose and a black-dotted coal smile. 
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each different color snowman.
8. Mix up all of the parts.
9. See how fast she can assemble all of snowmen so they're color coordinated. Start with 3 minutes and keep lowering the threshold until she's a pro at color sorting.
