The Snowmen

What You Need:

• Construction paper (black and white)
• Scissors
• Markers
• Glue stick

What You Do:

1. Ask your child to fold three sheets of white construction paper in half as if she were making a greeting card.
2. Help her to draw an outline of a snowman on the top of the folded paper. Tell her to make it as large as she can.
3. Have her cut along the drawn line to create multiple snowmen. She should end up with 6 snowmen. Repeat the process to make up to 20. If she likes, she can outline each one with the black marker and draw in their faces too. 
4. Make a stack with the scraps of white paper. Then, draw a circle on top of the stack. Cut out the circles and set them aside.
5. Encourage her to fold a sheet of black paper as many times as she can and draw a top hat for the snowmen on the surface of the folded paper. Cut along the lines to reveal several top hats. Make sure there's one for each snowman.
6. Glue the white circles to the front of the black top hats.
7. Write the numbers 1 through 20 on the top hats.
8. Help her to draw dots on the front of the snowmen that match the numbers on the hats. Each snowman should have a unique number.
9. Mix up the snowmen as well as the hats.
10. Lay the snowmen in a row on a table. Time how long it takes for her to match the correct numeric top hat to the snowmen with the corresponding numbers of dots.
11. After she's had a little practice, start timing her to see if she gets faster.
