Spy Sunglasses

What You Need:

• Old pair of dark sunglasses (or new pair if needed; sunglasses are often available at dollar shops)
• Mirror paper (available at craft stores)
• Scrap paper
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun

What You Do:

1. Have your child place the sunglasses face down on the scrap paper.
2. Next, he can use the pencil to trace around the outside of the sunglasses frames.
3. Hand him the ruler and ask him to measure from the outermost edge of the traced picture to the middle of the sunglasses. Help him divide the measurement by three. Then he should use his pencil to draw a vertical line a little over 1/3 of the way in from the outside edge of each side of the sunglasses frame.
4. Next, your child should find where the vertical lines stop, then cut in a horizontal line at the end of them so that he has two half-circles. These two pieces of paper will be the templates for the mirrors he will stick on the sides of his sunglasses.
5. Place a template on the mirror paper. The template should be on the mirrored side of the paper. Help your child cut around the template on the mirror paper.
6. Repeat step #6 with the other template.
7. Position the two pieces of mirror paper inside the sunglasses flush with the outer edges and temple hinges on the sunglasses. You can help your child trim any mirror paper that shows outside the sunglasses.
8. Help your child use the hot glue gun to glue the mirror paper into these positions.
9. When the glue has dried. he can wear the sunglasses. He should be able to see out the front of the sunglasses and use the mirror paper to spy on things or people behind him!
