Activity
Baby Bumblebee
If your child is getting tired of the cold winter weather, focus on the coming spring with this simple bumble bee craft. While he's making the pipe cleaner bee, introduce him to a few interesting bee facts. If your little beekeeper is buzzing for even more knowledge, help him search online for more fun facts about bees.
What You Need:
- Black and yellow pipe cleaners (or twist ties)
- Googly eyes
- White glue
- White paper
What You Do:
- Have your child wrap one black and one yellow pipe cleaner around one or two of her fingers. Use one finger for a smaller bee, and two fingers for a plumper bee. Hide the tips of the pipe cleaners by tucking them inside of the coil.
- Ask your child to cut a pair of wings for the bee out of the white paper. Create the two wings as one piece, attached in the middle.
- Fold the wings so they lie at an angle, then have your child glue them to the top of the pipe cleaner coil.
- Glue on the wiggly eyes to give your bee a face.
- Let the glue dry completely.

Did you know?
Bees are the only insects in the world that make food for people. Not only do we eat honey made by bees, but we also use beeswax and royal jelly for candles, cosmetics, and medicine. There are three kinds of bees: queen, worker, and drone. During the winter, bees gather together in a tight cluster in their hive to keep warm.
