Pet Blanket
This pet blanket is a perfect sewing project for your little gifter with a furry friend! Have a pet that needs a warm spot to snuggle? With some parental assistance, your child can make him this ultra cozy pet blanket in a jiff. This pet blanket project also provides a great way to feel better about the quick rate that your child outgrows her sweaters. You and your child will be using old sweaters that have been felted (basically, washed and dried in the washing machine) to quilt a cute patchwork blanket for your furry friend! Make a pet blanket with your child this holiday season.
What You Need:
- Old natural-fiber sweaters (no synthetics or cottons) that have been washed and dried in the washing machine
- Scissors
- Sturdy cardboard square
- Sewing machine
What You Do:
- Have your child start by using a square cardboard pattern to trace and cut squares from all the sweaters. Opting for a big square—almost the size of the entire front part of the smallest sweater—will make this project a little easier, but feel free to make the squares any size that your child wishes.
- Once your child has cut out enough squares to make the size blanket that she desires, pin the squares together in a pattern that she likes.
- Carefully sew the squares together using your sewing machine. You can certainly do this by hand if you'd like, as well. Don't worry about the hemming—the felted fabric won't unravel!
