Snow Globe Picture
Brrrrr! It's chilly outside. Now's the perfect time to create a snow globe. But, don't worry, you don't need glass for this dome. Your little one will create a unique snow landscape to celebrate the winter season. Transform this activity into a holiday gift by creating the snow globe on a folded sheet of construction paper for an easy homemade holiday gift card.
What You Need:
- Blue and black construction paper
- Tempera paint
- Glitter glue (2 colors)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Bowl (medium sized)
- Pencil
What You Do:
- Explain the basic parts of a real snow globe to your child. The top glass part is called a dome. The bottom part where the dome rests is called a base. The dome is usually made from glass and the base is typically wood, or plastic.
- Can your child think of winter scenes they've seen inside of snow globes? If they created their own snow globe, what elements would they include in their mini, wintry world?
- Ask your child to trace either the top, or bottom of a bowl to easily get the circular shape of the dome. The circle should be positioned in the top two-thirds of the page, leaving room for the base.
- Have them draw and cut out the base from construction paper. They can glue it in place so it starts at the bottom of the paper and meets the base of the circle they drew for the globe.
- Ask them to paint their winter scene so it fits inside the circle they drew.
- Encourage them to slowly and carefully outline the circle using the glitter glue to create the "glass dome" encasing their winter scene.
- Have them personalize their snow globe by writing their name or the year on the base using glitter glue.
