Rainbow Art

What You Need:

• Piece of cardboard (try reusing a cereal, cracker, or moving box)
• Scissors
• Clear drying, non-toxic glue
• Construction paper in a rainbow of colors
• Pencil

What You Do:

1. Ask her to cut out mock mosaic tiles. Traditional mosaic art is created from glass, ceramic, or other hard tile. These kid -friendly "tiles" are actually small shapes cut from paper.
2. Have her identify the different shapes that she has cut the paper into (such as triangles, squares, or rectangles). Make sure that she has a pile of paper "tiles" in a variety of colors.
3. Have her use a pencil to lightly outline each line of the rainbow. This will be her guide for where to place the paper tiles.
4. Now, invite her to place a line of glue over the first curved line.
5. Instruct her to quickly place the paper shapes onto the glue (before it dries). Ask her to count the number of "tiles" as she goes along.
6. Repeat for each band of the rainbow.
