Printmaking Art
Your child can be a Master Printmaker! This super-fun and easy method of printing encourages kids to draw as many patterns as they can imagine, trace them with yarn, paint and press their very own masterpieces. This is a great way to learn a centuries-old trade, while always have beautiful and successful results.
Grades:
Thank you for your input.
What You Need:
- White Construction paper, 11"x17” (as many sheets/prints as you like)
- White Cardstock, 11” x 17”
- Yarn
- White Glue (squeeze bottle with small nozzle)
- Pencil
- Tempera paint
What You Do:
- Have your child name off all of the different patterns they can imagine.
- Hand them a pencil and encourage them to recreate favorite patterns onto a sheet of cardstock.
- Help cut pieces of yarn to different lengths so they are easy to control. Trace a section of the pencil drawing with glue, while squeezing it from the bottle directly onto the drawing.
- Have your child carefully set down the yarn directly on top of the white glue, creating a yarn drawing. After all yarn is affixed to the cardstock, allow it to dry completely.
- Brush tempera paint directly onto the yarn drawing until all yarn is coated in wet paint. Press the cardstock, painted yarn side down, onto a piece of newspaper to test out the print. Determine if you need more or less paint to make the print you want.
- Match up the cardstock with the white construction paper and carefully lay down the cardstock yarn side down and press firmly on the back of the cardstock to leave a colorful print.
Make as many prints as you like, adding more tempera paint as you go. Sign and number each one just like a master printmaker artist!
