Paper Bag Hat

What You Need:

  • A brown paper bag
  • String
  • Scissors

What You Do:

  1. Start by inviting your child to find a brown paper grocery bag to repurpose for this fun art activity.
  2. Cut the handles off the bag and turn it inside out so that any writing is now on the inside of the bag.
  3. Invite your child to begin forming the paper bag into a hat shape by folding and crumpling the paper bag. You can offer a helping hand by holding the bag on your child’s head and then using a length of string to create the perfect fit.
  4. Invite your child to continue crumpling and folding the edges of the bag to create the perfect summer sun hat!

Do You Know? The first paper bag was patented in 1852 by a man named Francis Wolle. The machine he created was the first of its kind, and gained popularity all over the world!
