Op Art Craft
Also known as optical art, "op art" creates an optical illusion with its repetitive patterns and shapes. This colorful abstract art form is easy to make and looks great in any room. Colors, patterns and find motor skills all come to play in this craft. Your child can make one as big or as small as she wants, and with the help of colored masking tape and sticker shapes, it only takes a few minutes! Cleaning up is even faster!
What You Need:
- Masking tape in various colors
- Card stock or a recycled cereal box
- Construction paper
- Pencil
- Glue
- Scissors
What You Do:
- Have your child cut a piece of cardstock or cardboard into the size she wants.
- Next, cut long pieces of masking tape to stretch across the cardboard. You can use bright colors or stick to black and white for an equally cool effect.
- Now your child can carefully press down each piece of tape so it lays smooth on the cardboard. She might prefer to start on one end work across, or start in the middle and work her way to the edges. Encourage your child to overlap the tape in different directions to create some cool patterns.
- Once the cardboard is covered with the tape, your child can flip it over and trim off any excess tape.
- If she wants, your child can finish off the op art by placing shape stickers in a repetitive pattern.
- Now step back, and see if you can see any optical illusions!
