Newspaper Flowers
Don’t throw that Sunday paper away just yet! If you've got a kid who thinks she's "too old" for crafts, introduce her to beautifully simple newspaper flowers. The craft itself takes mere minutes, but the result makes a perfect addition to backpacks, binders, hair clips, and more.
What You Need:
- Newspaper
- Scissors
- Pen
- Glue
What You Do:
- Have you child start by cutting out a square from the newspaper. The size of the flower will depend on the size of the square. While she can experiment with sizing, it's best to start with a medium-sized square that's about 6" x 6".
- Help her draw a spiral shape on the square that begins in the center and circles out to the square's edges. It does not need to be exact. Just make sure the looping spiral takes up the entire square.
- Let her use scissors to cut the spiral out, beginning at the spiral's end point.
- Show her how to start tightly rolling the cut-out spiral until she reaches the end. Keep the paper as tight as possible.
- Help her curl the edges of the spiral flower before gluing the bottom to keep it intact.
- Set aside the newspaper flower to dry. Encourage her to try making different-sized flowers with wider and thiner spirals while she waits.
- Once the flowers are dry, let her glue them to whatever surface she wants to decorate.
