Monster Matching

What You Need:

• White construction paper
• Crayons
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Notebook

What You Do:

1. Talk to your kid about his favorite type of monsters. Does he like familiar villians like vampires and zombies or stranger creatures made-up of horns and claws and fangs. Have him write down the names of his favorite beasts. (Make sure there are at least six.)
2. Ask him why he likes the monsters he choose? Does he like that they're scary or that they have super cool skills like the ability to fly or scare people with just their roar?
3. Time to practice being his monsters to life! Have him use a pencil to sketch them out in his notebook.
4. Once he's perfected his creepy creatures, have your child draw each monster twice on the white construction paper.
5. Let him use his crayons to add some life and color to the monsters.
6. Help him cut the paper into squares -- one monster per square. Now he has a set of monster memory cards.
7. Play a basic memory game by laying out all of the cards, face-down.
8. Take turns flipping two cards at a time. Who can find the most monster matches first?
9. For a bigger party, just make more monster cards!

Help your child get even more creative by writing or telling a short story about one of the monsters he created! Is his monster an evil, scary villian or a lovable, goofy beast?
