Candy Wrapper Collage
Looking for something to do with all of those discarded Halloween candy wrappers? This festive art project upcycles wrappers to create a unique collage! Artists around the world use "found" objects to create collages and other mixed-media artwork. This Halloween, encourage your child to try out this art form by making their very own spooky, upcycled landscape design!
What You Need:
- Used Halloween candy wrappers
- Cardboard (try reusing a section of a discarded cereal or shoe box)
- Glue stick
- Glue
- Tempera paint
- Paintbrush
- Fallen leaves
- Scissors
- Construction or tissue paper (if desired)
What You Do:
- Choose a specific Halloween theme. We made a graveyard!
- Help your child to cut the wrappers to create interesting shapes.
- Have your little one arrange the piece of cardboard in a landscape position.
- Create a collage using the wrappers, and any other small objects your child may want to include as part of the collage. Add construction or tissue paper if desired.
- Set aside to dry.
- Paint details onto the design using the tempera. Let dry.
- Adhere leaves around the border of your picture collage.
This activity will also help reinforce your child's understanding of concepts such as color, shape, and texture, as well as early literacy and math skills. Make sure to have your child point out the letters and words on the wrappers as they work. Once the artwork is completed, have them count how many candy wrappers they used to create their collage!
