Activity
Snack Logs
You've probably told your preschooler not to play with her food a million times over, but what if there was an activity where she didn't have to hold back? Construct little log building snacks! In this activity, you'll make logs out of celery, peanut butter and cornflakes and then have your child create her own miniature building. Not only will she get to learn a thing or two about sound structure, but she'll also have a yummy, healthy treat to look forward to afterwards. This is a great way to liven up afternoon snack time and can also work as a fun activity for your child's get-togethers.
What You Need:
- Celery stalks chopped in thirds
- Peanut butter
- Corn flakes
- Rubber spatula
- Mixing bowl
- Mug
- Plate
What You Do:
- Help your child place the corn flakes into the mixing bowl.
- Then, using the bottom of the mug, help your child crush the corn flakes until they are fine and crumbly.
- Let her pour the crushed corn flakes out of the mixing bowl, onto the plate.
- Next, using the rubber spatula, help your child spread half of the chunky peanut butter down the center of the celery stalk.
- Then, help your child coat the outside of the celery stalk with peanut butter.
- Place the peanut butter coated celery onto the plate with the crushed corn flakes.
- Help her roll the celery stalk around until the outside is completely coated in the crushed corn flakes.
- Next, have her carefully discard any loose flakes.
- Keep making logs until you're sure you have enough to construct a log building!
- Put the snack logs in a container and place them in the fridge so they can firm up (around an hour).
- Help your child remove the snack logs from the fridge and get building!
