What You Need:

• Deck of cards with the face cards (jacks, queens, and kings) removed

What You Do:

1. Play the first round with your child to make sure he understands the game. Ask him to start by shuffling the deck.
2. Tell him that for the purposes of the game aces = 1.
3. Have him deal out all 40 cards face up into 13 separate piles of 4 cards each.
4. Ask him to turn over the piles, one at a time, and start searching out all of the different combinations of cards that add up to equal 14.
5. Have him play until there are no more moves possible.
6. Count the cards that remain and tally up his score for the round. The lower the score, the better.
7. Have him play again and try to beat his score. With enough practice, he might be able to use all of the cards and get a perfect score of 0!
