Activity
Goal Planning
When trying to reach goals and gain accomplishments, it's a good idea to have a plan for success. This activity will help your child to create goals for the upcoming school year. He will choose three goals to focus on and write them down. Then he'll explain to you how he hopes to reach them. By reminding himself of his goals frequently, he'll be better able to focus on them and hopefully eventually even achieve them!

Thank you for your input.
What You Need:
- Construction paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Markers
- Glue stick
What You Do:
- Encourage your child to write down three goals he has for this upcoming year. Discuss things he would like to get better at doing, or things he would like to learn.
- Have him write down his three goals on a half sheet of construction paper. At the top of his goal list have him write, "My goals for the next year"
- Glue the goal list on the bottom half of a sheet of construction paper.
- Encourage him to create a self portrait out of construction paper. His head can be a circle. Cut this out and glue it on the paper. He can finish his self portrait with markers or other cut-out construction paper pieces.
- While he's creating his self portrait ask him to explain to you how he hopes to achieve his goals.
- Have him cut out small hands from construction paper and glue them on either side of the goal list. The final image will depict him holding his goals for this coming year.
- Hang this goal planning artwork up in a place that he'll pass by every day. This way, he'll remember his goals throughout the year, which will help him visualize them and stay on target!
