Flower Window Box
You don't need any showers for these cute flowers to bloom--just add some imagination! Set out an assortment of craft materials and let your budding gardener create a variety of flowers and then place them into this flower window box for a craft that will brighten any room. Young botonists will love making their favorite varieties of plants for this decoration.
What You Need:
- Egg carton
- Craft sticks
- Construction paper
- Paint
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Cupcake holders
- Pipe cleaner
- Flower stamps or cut-outs
- Glitter, pom-poms, bows
What You Do:
- Invite your child to make at least six flowers, using the craft sticks as the stem. She can use a rubber flower stamp to create prints on card stock and cut them out, cut out photos of flowers from magazines and glue them on paper, or print them out with a computer.
- Now she can get crafty and enhance the flowers with glitter for a dewy sparkle, glue on pompoms, fancy pasta or bows.
- You can also make a bold flower by layering paper cupcake holders on top of each other. Poke a hole in the center of the holders, and string a pipe cleaner through the hole. Then, secure it in place with a bead at the top, for the center of the flower.
- Glue the flowers that don't have a stem to the top of craft sticks.
- Your child can cut out leaves with green construction paper, and glue them to the sides of the sticks.
- Turn the egg carton upside down, and glue the sides shut.
- Now your child can paint the cups brown, and paint the base or wrap a festive ribbon around it. Let the carton dry completely.
- Cut a slit into the middle of each egg cup for the flower stems to fit into. Have your child insert the flowers into the cups.
- Now your child can shred come green paper and glue it around the flowers for grass.
Make these for the window sill of a playhouse for great pretend play activity.
