Felt Play Food: Ravioli
If your child is hungry to work on his sewing skills, put together a plate of this felt play food ravioli. This simple project is deliciously crafty and calls upon more than just sewing skills: as he stitches, he’ll learn a little bit about measurement and estimation, too.
What You Need:
- Beige or white felt
- Matching embroidery floss and needle
- Batting or cotton balls
- Pinking shears (optional)
What You Do:
- First, have him cut out 2-to-3-inch squares of beige felt; two squares for each ravioli. If he likes, he can use pinking shears or zigzag craft scissors to cut them out: this will give them the appearance of a crimped edge, just like real ravioli have!
- Leaving about a half inch around the edges, have him sew three sides of the square shut (if you have a sewing machine, this step can be finished quickly, and will also provide a great way to start teaching machine skills). He can then stuff the inside with batting or a cotton ball to “fill” the ravioli. Sew the last side shut and repeat.
- If he likes, he can cut out a cloud-shaped piece of red felt to make “sauce.”
- When he’s done, he can give them to a younger sibling for playtime!
