Activity
Make Feather Earrings
Pretty, fluttery feather earrings add a light touch to any outfit. Your child will float on air knowing she made the earrings herself.
What You Need:
- Four colorful feathers
- Two colorful wood beads
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Two ear wires, fish hook or other kind as pictured
- Two spring ends, available at craft or bead shops
- Pliers
What You Do:
- Let your child pick out feathers for earrings she would like to make. She will need two feathers per earring, so she can pick feathers all in the same color or mix and match various colors.
- Have her pick two colorful wood beads to go with the feather colors that she picked. She will need one bead for each earring.
- Have her line up the stem ends of two feathers and place a bead over the ends of the stems. If the feathers have long stems, trim them with scissors so that only about half an inch sticks out of the bead.
- Help your child heat up the hot glue gun and put a drop or two of hot glue on the stem ends of the feathers. Have the spring end ready to put over the glue and stem ends.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 to make the second earring.
- After the glue has dried, she can hook the top of the spring end to the fish hook or other earring wire. She may need to use pliers to gently open and then re-close the fish hook loop or spring end top loop. The parent can help with pliers if needed.
- Let her wear the earrings to enjoy her flashy feathery creations!
