Fall Words Reading Tree

What You Need:

  • White poster board
  • Scissors
  • Brown marker
  • Red chalk
  • Yellow chalk
  • Orange chalk
  • Tan chalk
  • Fall vocabulary words

What You Do:

  1. Have your child use a brown marker to draw a tree on the white poster board.
  2. Help them cut the tree out of the poster board. Make sure none of the branches accidentally get cut off.
  3. Let them use red, yellow, orange and tan chalk to scribble all over the rest of the poster board. The colors should blend, so urge your child to overlap each shade.
  4. Have them cut out twenty football-shaped leaves from the colored poster board.
  5. Let your child write a word from a fall vocabulary list on a leaf. Have them do this with 10 words on 10 different leaves.
  6. Then, write ten words that have nothing to do with fall on the remaining leaves, but don't let your child see these words!
  7. Spread out all the leaves on the table.
  8. Have your child select only the fall words from the pile.
  9. As your child picks each word, ask them to define it.
  10. Keep going until the tree is filled with vibrant fall leaves!
