3-D Art Project
Your child makes a pretty picture using scrunched-up fabric pieces which add color and a three-dimensional look to her artwork. These directions tell how to make a sun picture. Your child could also choose a different picture to make, such as a flower or rainbow.
What You Need:
- cardboard
- pencil
- markers
- fabric scraps, various colors
- scissors
- hot glue gun
What You Do:
- Heat up the hot glue gun, so it will be ready in a few minutes.
- Have your child draw a sun outline in pencil on the cardboard. Later she’ll fill in the outline with fabric “crunches.”
- Help her cut pieces of yellow fabric into 1 inch by 1 inch squares.
- When the hot glue is ready, put a drop of glue on the back of a fabric square. Then let her fold up or “scrunch” the fabric around the glue dot. The glue will help hold the fabric into a scrunched-up piece.
- Your child can carefully use the glue gun to put some glue inside the sun shape, and then push the scrunched-up fabric piece onto that spot of glue. Hold the fabric in place until it feels tightly glued to the cardboard.
- Let her repeat steps #4 and 5 for all the pieces of fabric until the sun shape is filled. Voila! She has a three-dimensional image of the sun!
- She can use sharpies or regular markers to fill in the cardboard around the sun, for example with clouds, sky, or a rainbow.
A similar process can be used if she’d like to make Fabric Crunch Art of a flower or a rainbow or some other picture design. Just remember to start with a pencil outline which can be filled in with colored fabric crunches. Let her hang her new artwork and enjoy!
