Dessert Quesadilla
Help your child fix a yummy fruit and chocolate quesadilla. All that arranging and slicing will definitely boost fine motor skills and he'll make a snack for the whole family to enjoy.
What You Need:
- Banana
- Flour tortillas
- Chocolate chips
- Cutting board
- Table knife
- Griddle or skillet
- Spatula
What You Do:
- Set your child up with the cutting board and table knife and show him how to slice up the banana.
- You don’t need to pre-warm the griddle since you are cooking over low heat. It's easiest if you assemble the quesadilla on the griddle surface because that way you won’t loose chocolate chips when you try to move the assembled quesadilla onto the griddle. Center the tortilla on the griddle.
- Have your child scatter chocolate chips across one half of the tortilla.
- Top the chocolate chips with banana slices.
- Heat the griddle containing the quesadilla on a burner over low heat. Once the tortilla has heated it will become flexible. Fold the tortilla over so that it is now shaped like a taco.
- Continue to heat. Use a spatula and show your child how to check to see if the tortilla is browning. Also check to see that the chocolate chips are melting.
- When one side of the tortilla has browned, turn the quesadilla over.
- Brown the second side, checking it occasionally so that it doesn’t burn. Remove the quesadilla from the griddle when it's sufficiently browned and the chocolate chips have melted.
- Return quesadilla to cutting board and help your child cut it into wedges.
- Repeat steps 2 through 9 to make additional quesadillas as needed, depending on the number of people you are serving.
Serve warm with a cold glass of milk and optional whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon. You can also try other combinations as well. Chocolate chips, banana slices, mini marshmallows, raspberries, and even dried cherries are all potentially great ingredients.
