Activity
Compare and Contrast Words
Help your child to compare and contrast objects, using words. This flash card game will help him memorize words while visually seeing the differences between objects. Drawing the objects on the flash cards will also help to reinforce the differences he observes.

Subjects:
Thank you for your input.
What You Need:
- White paper
- Scissors
- Markers
- Pencil
What You Do:
- Help your child come up with a list of comparison words and write them down on a sheet of paper. Words could include bigger and smaller, taller and shorter, thinner and fatter, brighter and duller, etc.
- Cut the white paper sheets in half to create flash cards. Make one flash card per word on the list.
- Ask your child to make a drawing of two contrasting objects on a flashcard. Have him draw an arrow to one of them and write one correct word to represent the comparison in the drawing. (Example: If he draws a short hat and a tall hat, he would draw an arrow to the tall hat and write "taller" next to the hat.)
- Continue helping him to draw and write on each flash card until all of the words are used.
- Stack the cards upside down and have him choose one flash card. Have him tell you what the comparison word is for the object that is not labeled. If he gets it correct, it goes in the "correct" pile of cards. If he gets it incorrect, put it back at the bottom of the deck.
- Play until he gets all of the words correct.
- To make the game more competitive, use a timer and see how fast he can name the comparison words!
