Activity
Color Codes
Here's a tactile way for your child to begin learning how to color match! She'll begin by making a "decoder." Then, it's a race against time to see how quickly she can decode and correctly place all of the water beads.
What You Need:
- Water beads (at least 5 colors, pre-soaked overnight and strained)
- Construction paper (5 colors that match your color beads)
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Plastic wrap
- Timer
What You Do:
- Help your child cut strips of each color of construction paper, 8.5" x 2".
- Ask her to lay them out in stripes on the white paper. Glue them in place.
- Help her cover the striped paper with plastic wrap to protect it against water from the water beads.
- With a bowl of water beads on one side and the striped paper in front of her, set the timer for 30 seconds and see how many beads she can get to match the stripes by placing them on the correct colors.
- For a more challenging game, start discussing color mixing and have her place the correct mixture on the stripes to make the color she's matching.
Color Key:
Blue + Yellow = Green
Red + Yellow = Orange
Blue + Red = Purple
