Count-in-Spanish Book

What You Need:

• 10 blank sheets of paper
• Digital camera
• Stapler

What You Do:

1. Look around the house and try to find 10 items that represent Latino culture. Your neighborhood grocery store is a great place to go, too. If necessary, do a little research ahead of time to find major themes or icons that your child can identify.
2. Next, grab your camera and snap close up shots of those objects. If you’re at the grocery store, for example, take a picture of 1 jicama, 2 jalapeno peppers, 3 jars of salsa, etc. Let your child decide which objects he wants to include in his book.
3. Once you have ten pictures, upload them to your home computer.
4. Using a word processing application such as MS Word, copy and paste each photo onto a separate page. 
5. Add the counting words to the top of each page: “One = Uno,”“Two = Dos,” “Three = Tres” and so on.
6. Ask your child to staple the pages together.
7. Now he has a bilingual counting book that he can enjoy time and time again. 

Alternative: You and your child can use pictures from old magazines and catalogs instead of photographs. Simply have your child cut the images out and glue them on to each sheet of paper. Don't stress out trying to find multiple images of the same object; just take a single object and make as many photocopies of that object as you need.
