Homemade Chocolates
Homemade chocolates are a surprisingly easy way to make unique and personal treats for friends and family. This Valentine's Day your child can impress her loved ones with adorable homemade chocolates. While the end result looks fancy and complex, making bite-sized chocolates is actually as simple as pouring a melted chocolate bar into tiny molds (such as silicone ice cube trays). Top them with fruit, nuts, or sprinkles and voila—you'll have a delicious, personalized treat that says "I love you" all over it! Make a batch of homemade chocolates with your child this Valentine's Day.
What You Need:
- Two 3.5-ounce chocolate bars
- Silicone ice cube tray or other small, flexible mold
- Decorative toppings (nuts, fresh or dried fruit, candy, sprinkles)
What You Do:
- Break the chocolate bars into small pieces and place them into a one-cup glass measuring cup.
- Microwave the cup of chocolate pieces on low heat for 20 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir gently with a spoon. Repeat the process until the chocolate is just melted. Be careful not to overheat it!
- Pour a small amount of melted chocolate into each section of the ice cube tray, making sure not to overfill them. Each section should be about three-quarters full.
- Carefully add a small amount of topping to each chocolate.
- Place the tray in the refrigerator and let the chocolates chill until hard.
- Remove the chocolates from the tray as you would remove ice cubes, pressing gently on the bottom of each one.
- Present the chocolates in a small box or on a plate covered with plastic wrap.
