Activity
Chicken Face
Baby chicks and eggs are everywhere at Easter, but the chickens who give us the baby chicks and eggs deserve some attention too! This year, help your child celebrate Easter by upcycling an old light bulb and make a cute little chicken face.
What You Need:
- Old light bulb
- Yellow acrylic paint
- Orange acrylic paint
- Red acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Newspaper sheet
- Cup
- Water
- Plastic soda cap
What You Do:
- Ask your to child spread the newspaper sheet out on a large, flat surface.
- Then, help her squirt dollops of the yellow, orange, and red paint onto the sheet of newspaper.
- Have your child fill the cup with water.
- Your child should then place the cup of water on the sheet of newspaper.
- Have her grip the old light bulb by the metal bit at the end.
- Using the paintbrush, have her completely paint the light bulb with the yellow paint.
- Place the rounded top of the painted light bulb on the plastic soda cap and allow the paint to dry completely.
- Meanwhile, help your child rinse the paintbrush out in the cup of water.
- Once the paint on the light bulb is dry, your child should remove the bulb from the plastic soda cap.
- Have her grip the light bulb with the metal bit facing up.
- Using the paintbrush and the orange paint, ask her to paint an beak on the lightbulb.
- Help your child to rinse off the paintbrush.
- Have her use the paintbrush and the red paint to paint a pair of eyes on the light bulb.
- She should once again place the light bulb back on the plastic soda cap and allow the paint to dry completely.
Help your child find a fun place to display her chicken face. You can also use this project as an opportunity to talk about the importance of recycling.
