Charlotte's Web Card
Inspired by the children's book, Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, this card brings the spunky spider Charlotte to life! Your child will get to use several different art mediums like watercolor paint, tissue paper construction and glitter application in this beautiful craft. It’s also great for fostering a love of reading. Those who haven’t yet read the book are in for a treat!
What You Need:
- Watercolor paper
- Large black pompom
- Watercolor paint
- Paint brush
- White tempera paint
- Pencil
- Glitter glue
- White glue
- Dark tissue paper
- Cotton balls
- Black pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes
- Scotch tape
What You Do:
- Have your child fold a sheet of watercolor paper in half, to form a card.
- Now she can think about what Charlotte would see on the farm and lightly sketch out the barnyard scene.
- Paint in the scene with watercolors, and let the card dry completely.
- Lightly draw out a spider web for Charlotte, using concentric shapes.
- Paint thin lines of white paint over your pencil drawing of the spider web. Allow this to dry completely.
- Trace over the white lines of paint with glitter glue to help make Charlotte's web sparkle!
- Cut a rectangle of tissue paper for Charlotte’s body.
- Place one or two cotton balls on the center of the tissue paper. Carefully fold the tissue paper around the cotton to form Charlotte's body. Use tape to put it in place.
- Cut four equal lengths of pipe cleaners for Charlotte's legs. Tape them in place on the bottom of the spider body, so they are equal length on both sides of the spider. Charlotte should have eight legs total.
- Glue the large black pompom to the body, for Charlotte's head.
- Add the googly eyes to Charlotte's face.
- Use white glue to place Charlotte on her web.
- Add a message inside to give to a good friend to inspire them to read the book!
