Sock Bunny!

What You Need:

• Light-colored sock (look for socks with fuzzy textures or patterns)
• Rubber band
• Cardboard reused from a cereal or cracker box
• Newspaper or tissue paper reused from gifts or store packaging
• Scissors
• Markers
• Clear drying, non-toxic glue

What You Do:

1. Ask your child to stuff the sock until it's ¾ full with crumpled tissue paper or newspaper. If you are using a sock made of thin or white fabric, try using light-colored tissue paper since newspaper may show through.
2. Fold over the empty part of the sock and wrap a rubber band around to secure it in place. The rubber band also helps separate your sculpture into two parts: head and body.
3. Cut two slits in the top of the sculpture's head where the ears would go.
4. Have your child cut out two bunny ears from the cardboard. What shape is a bunny's ear?
5. Help your child dab a small amount of glue on the ears, then insert them into the slits.
6. Encourage her to add a face and other embellishments using markers.
7. Find a good spot to display your bunny sculpture. If it doesn't stand up, squish and move the newspaper filling around until the bunny sits upright.
