Sock Bunny!
Need something to do with all those lonely socks that lost their mates in the wash? Try a little creative, eco-friendly crafting: turn those misfit socks into Easter-themed bunny sculptures! Little sculptors can tap into their creative side while doing their part to help the environment.
What You Need:
- Light-colored sock (look for socks with fuzzy textures or patterns)
- Rubber band
- Cardboard reused from a cereal or cracker box
- Newspaper or tissue paper reused from gifts or store packaging
- Scissors
- Markers
- Clear drying, non-toxic glue
What You Do:
- Ask your child to stuff the sock until it's ¾ full with crumpled tissue paper or newspaper. If you are using a sock made of thin or white fabric, try using light-colored tissue paper since newspaper may show through.
- Fold over the empty part of the sock and wrap a rubber band around to secure it in place. The rubber band also helps separate your sculpture into two parts: head and body.
- Cut two slits in the top of the sculpture's head where the ears would go.
- Have your child cut out two bunny ears from the cardboard. What shape is a bunny's ear?
- Help your child dab a small amount of glue on the ears, then insert them into the slits.
- Encourage her to add a face and other embellishments using markers.
- Find a good spot to display your bunny sculpture. If it doesn't stand up, squish and move the newspaper filling around until the bunny sits upright.
