Activity
Cardboard Box Costumes
Although it may not look like much, a regular brown cardboard box makes an ideal blank slate for this free form, child-directed arts and crafts activity in which your child will create a fanciful costume out of just a box, a few art supplies and craft materials, and her imagination. She'll immerse herself in the artistic process as she takes complete creative control over the costume's design. For extra fun, invite some of her friends over for a costume-making party, and put on a play when you're done.
What You Need:
- Cardboard box large enough to fit over your child's body
- Scissors
- Markers
- Construction paper
- Assorted decorative materials for embellishing the costume such as fabric, ribbon, lace, confetti, glitter, beads, buttons, or feathers
What You Do:
- Ask your child what kind of costume she would like and start brainstorming ideas on how to create and decorate it with her.
- Have your child create and decorate her costume using the markers, construction paper, and other decorative materials. Allow your child to have full creative control over the design of her costume. You might be surprised with what she comes up with!
