Blueberry Sorbet
Did you know July is National Blueberry Month? In celebration, your child can turn blueberries into a wonderfully tasty dessert—blueberry sorbet!
What You Need:
- 4 cups fresh blueberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ cup water
- Blender
- Plastic container with lid
- Fork
- Timer
- Scrap paper and pencil
What You Do:
- Start by inviting your child to wash and then measure the blueberries, placing them in the blender.
- Now she can measure and add the rest of the ingredients for the sorbet. She can blend the mixture for about 30 seconds, or until the blueberries are reduced to a happy pulp.
- Invite your child to pour the blueberry mixture in the plastic container with lid and place in the freezer. Encourage your child to create a chart using the scrap paper and pencil to keep track of the sorbet making process.
- Now invite your child to set the timer for 15 minutes. Once the timer dings, she can remove the mixture from the freezer, give everything a good stir with a fork, and then return to the freezer.
- Your child can continue timing, mixing and freezing until the blueberry sorbet freezes!
- Offer her an ice cream scoop to dish everyone up a taste!
Did you know: sorbet, or frozen water flavored with fruit, is thought to have originated during Roman times? Sometimes liquor, such as wine or vodka, is used instead of water.
