Make an Easy Tie for Father's Day

What You Need:

• About 1 yard of your chosen fabric
• Plain muslin, about ½ yard
• Interfacing, about ½ yard
• One of Dad’s old ties or a tie from Goodwill
• Scissors
• Seam ripper
• Thread to match your fabric
• Needle
• Iron

What You Do:

1. Start by deconstructing the existing tie, using scissors and a seam ripper, so that you have a pattern to use for your new tie.
2. Using the deconstructed tie as a pattern, cut out a tie from your chosen fabric. Cut a slightly smaller shape from the muslin. Cut a small triangle from the interfacing slightly smaller than the triangle at the point of the tie.
3. Use a slip stitch (basically a stitch that doesn’t come out of the other side of the fabric) to attach the interfacing to the point of the tie on the fabric’s wrong-side. (This will keep it from curling up.) Use a slip stitch to sew the muslin on the back side of the fabric.
4. Use an iron to carefully press the sides of the tie so that they come together in the center of the wrong side, making the tie look like a tie. Use a few stitches to secure the flaps in place.
