Thank you for your input.
What You Need:
- Colored poster board
- Colorful markers
- Index cards
- Adhesive velcro strips
- Small box
What You Do:
- Have your child write the seven days of the week and the twelve months of the year on the index cards, one on each card.
- Cut 16 index cards in half and have your child write the numbers 1-31 on the cards.
- Brainstorm with your child about different words to describe the weather on different days. Some possible words are sunny, cold, cloudy, hot, windy, and rainy. Have your child write each word on a card and draw a picture to describe the word alongside it.
- Place a piece of Velcro on the back of each index card.
- At the top of the poster board have your child write “Today is” at the top of the poster. Underneath the title, have her place three pieces of Velcro on the poster board in a line horizontally across the poster board. Make sure that there is enough space between the pieces of Velcro for each of the index cards.
- On the next line, have your child write “The Weather is” and place a piece of Velcro to the right of the words.
- Have your child find the correct card for the day of the week, month and date. Show her how to use the Velcro to attach the card to the poster board.
- Go outside with your child and observe the weather. Have her find the weather word that describes the weather for the day and put it on the poster. If she comes up with a word that you do not have a card for, help her make another card.
- Hang the poster up in your house. Each morning, have your child find the day of the week card for the day and the weather card. When it is a new month, have your child change the month card.
- If you have more than one child, you can have your children take turns updating the "Today Is" poster each morning!
